Today for writing we watched an angry birds trailer on YouTube. While we were watching the video we thought about lots of different verbs, verbs we could hear, verbs we could see etc. We used these verbs to create a wordle on a new website http://www.abcya.com/word_clouds.htm

Gymnastics
Today we went to the Wanganui Boys and Girls Gym Club for our first gym session. We enjoyed a few games of Seaweed for a warm up. We then practiced jumping and landing correctly. After that we were able to go on all of the equipment. we loved jumping on the tramp, the air track and into the foam pit. We were really lucky because we got 10 minutes free time at the end. We had a great time.
Duffy Theatre
Today the whole school went to the hall to watch the Duffy Show. It was funny I liked when they were having the word battle. It was the funniest thing I thought that was in the Duffy Show. I was laughing hard out because it was super funny when they were rhyming and the person that was challenging them was sneezing when they were rhyming. Some children got given books at the end for being good readers. I am looking forward to seeing the next Duffy Show. I think Duffy Books in homes is great.

Weekly Challenge
In class we have been learning all about expositions. We are currently working on answering the question "Should we behave like swine, are manners important when we dine?" Before we started to write we discussed some of the rules we have. One rules that lots of people have is, you are not allowed to put your elbows on the table. But why? No one knew why. So that is our challenge...
Why are we not allowed to put our elbows on the table when we are eating?

Blogging King
Well this week it was easy to choose. I started off by eliminating any blog that had draft posts. That left me with only 5 blogs to choose from. So I then viewed every blog to see which blog looked good. Straight away 3 were out of the running because I could see simple mistakes. It came down to Costello and Zhyon. But the winner was....
Don't give up Zhyon. You might get it next week.

Skyping Nathan
Nathan is so lucky. He has spent the last 5 weeks flying around the world. He has been to America, London Paris and lots more places. Now he is in Thailand. Check out his blog if you want to read more about his adventures. We have been able to Skype Nathan while he has been overseas. We found out yesterday that he has held a baby tiger, patted an adult one and had scorpions put on him. Crazy!

Earthquake!
Today we had a very interesting end to our school day. We were all busy working away and the tables started to wobble. Shortly after we realised it was an earthquake. We all quickly jumped under the tables and made turtle shells. We were so surprised at how long it lasted. Also how much our lights and artwork swayed. We asked Mrs Larsen if she could get a video of the lights for us. Luckily she had her phone with her under the door frame and was able to. Can you see the lights and artwork swaying? If you listen carefully you can even hear the door frame I was standing under squeaking.
Assembly
Last week at assembly we had a special visitor. Chris from Life Education cam to talk to us and he brought Harold with him. Harold enjoyed being silly with Chris, some lucky people were even able to give Harold a big hug, including Mr Petersen! We learnt that Harold is a good dancer. He did a little Gangnam Style for us. Very cool!

Harold
We were so lucky. This week the Life Education bus is at out school. So that means we get to see Harold. Today was our fist day in the bus. We were very excited. We got to meet Tam and Harold. We needed to help Harold with his homework so we learnt all about the different body systems and the liver. We loved watching the lights change and listening to Harold's jokes. We can't wait to go back next week.

Chinese Visitors
Yesterday we had some Chinese student from WHS come and visit us. They are on an exchange for Term 3. We showed them some Jump Jam moves, then we did the haka for them. I think we blew them away. After that we went back to class, found a buddy and asked them to show us how to write our names in Chinese. We discovered that it is very very hard! I think we are going to need lots of practice. After that we showed them our blog and all the videos. They really enjoyed seeing what we get up to. We also managed to get outside and have a game of four square and playground tag. It was heaps of fun spending time with them.

We really enjoyed working with Room 4 and can't wait to work with them again. Thanks for having us Mosston, it was heaps of fun.

Our Present!
Today Joshua and Kahu waked in with a present from Mr Petersen, a chrysalis. He found it and thought we might like to have it in the class and see what happens. Kahu thinks there is a white butterfly inside, what do you think?
Below is a you Tube clip to show the life cycle from Caterpillar to Butterfly. Very interesting!

Our New HOM
Today we started our new Habit of Mind. This time I didn't tell the boys what it was. Their goal was to try and figure what habit we are focusing on from the activity we did.
Today they all were given part of a picture to colour in. However, they didn't know what the picture was. After they had finished we glued all the pieces together and had a look at what we made. We compared it to the original art work.
Here is what we created.
Here is Van Gogh's version.
So what Habit of Mind do you think we were focusing on?

Today we were so excited! Letters from our penpals in Australia arrived in the post. We really enjoyed receiving our first letters and learning all about our penpals. Can you believe it, one of them has a pet snake!
They asked us lots of good questions. They also told us a little about how Kingi is going and drew pictures of him. We are pleased he is with such a nice class. We will be writing back to them next week.

Today we were really lucky. Tyson's mum Laura, came in with Aunty Kath to show us how to weave stars. They heard we had been celebrating Puanga so though it would be a fun thing for us to learn. We needed to listen carefully and follow the instructions accurately. We had lots of fun. I think our stars look great!

Netball Tag
In P.E we have been focusing on chest passing and catching correctly. We went over the important steps we need to remember like; making a w with our fingers, following through with the ball and cushioning the ball when catching it. To practice these skills we played a new game, Netball Tag. We had lots of fun.
