Kingi's First Day

Today Kingi arrived at school a little nervous Treyzhan went outside to find him, thats when we realised Kingi was a LION! He can definately be the King of our jungle. Kingi had an awesome first day. Have a look at all the fun things he did.

We have been viewed all over the world!

Wow! Look at this, our blog is still new and we have already had visits from lots of different countries. Argentina, United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Austria.

Humpty Dumpty Accicdents

Room 14 wrote a retell of humpty dumpty. We all had very bad endings for Humpty Dumpty. We all wrote slightly different stories. They were all funny. It took about two weeks to do because we had to draft our writing first then publish it. We are all so happy with what we have done.

Our Gardens

Today Jahzia and Mrs McAvoy worked extremely hard and planted lots of yummy lettuces and parsley in our planter box. They filled up the box with some good soil first. I can’t wait for them to grow nice and big. Maybe we could use the lettuces to make some yummy sandwiches.

Round the Bridges Fun Run

On Sunday some very fit people from Carlton School took part in the Round the Bridges Fun Run. They had to run 5km. All of them did very well. Check out some of the photos that Mrs Steedman took.

Carlton Ave Improvements

Outside Room 14 we have road works becose they have been putting a new round about in down the road. Our school is on a state highway to Palmerston North and Taranaki. It was shambles outside our school when they were digging up the road and resealing it. But it looks much better now it is almost finished.

Sports Afternoon

Today we had our Senior School Sports Afternoon. The whole senior school is split into 9 teams and we rotate around all the teachers. Each teacher does a different sport. It has been great to see the senior school work together. Keep it up guys!

Planet Kaha

We have been learning about safe communities so Mrs Larsen gave us a challenge. To design a safe, happy, bully free planet. We had to choose 20 qualities people would have, 20 different jobs people would have and 20 features like hospitals, schools and skate parks. On our planet we have a supermarket, skate bowl and we have a motorway place where you can drift around on a mean as skyline. My favourite is the beach because it cools me down and it's nice and refreshing.

Week Three-Spelling List

Our Amazing Job Caterpillar

Room 14 has a caterpillar job list. It helps us to remember what jobs we have. At the end of the day Mrs larsen reminds us of our jobs. When she does that i always have to look at the caterpillar because i sometimes forget my job. My mind is full of a lot of things. These are our jobs: fruit, gardner, recyling bins, chairs, books, floor, clockbay, computers, windows, P.E, messenger and boards.

Name Monsters

Room 14 made Name Monsters. First Mrs Larsen linked our name, then we had to fold the piece of paper in half, go to a window in the class and go over the lines on the blank side. Then we got a black crayon and went over the pencil lines. After that we crayoned the sections and turned our name into a monster. We then dyed our paper one colour. Don't they look great!

Room 14's Rutherford Adventure

Today our class went to Rutherford Intermediate to visit their boys class. First we were introduced to each other them we went and played tennis. After that we went into their gym and played multi sports. We had an awesome time. We can't wait for next week. They are coming to us and we are going to build huts.

Gingerbread Haka!

Well boys, I learnt so much this weekend while I was at the ICT course. I can't wait for us to try lots of it in class. Here is a cool video I was shown that I thought you would love.

Discovery time

It was an extraodinary day when our all boys class found out we were going to be having our very first Discovery Time. The theme was Dinosaurs. We had five, fantastic, fun activities to choose from. The activity I choose to do was to create our own species of Dinosaur. I took ideas from Avatar and other dinosaurs to create my own. It's not finished yet but when I finish it, I will put a picture of it on the blog.

Amazing Plant Art

We have been observationally drawing our plant, that lives in the corner of our classroom. When we observationally draw we need to remember to look carefully at the object we are drawing instead of our paper. We need to draw lots of detail and shade in our work. Some of the class members thought it was hard, but i thought it was a piece of cake.

Recycling

At Carlton School we recycle our paper. Every class and office has their own recycling bin. Our classroom is in charge of emptying everyones recycling bins every morning. Emptying the recycling bins is one of my class jobs. We have split the school into three areas the juniors, seniors and offices. We take turns emptying bins in the different areas. Today i emptied the offices.

Strips of Aotearoa

We made drawings of where we were born. First we drew the background with pencil, showing features of where we were from. After that we coloured them in with crayon. We made a border using crayon and dye. We put our background on a black piece of paper and then put that onto our border. We inidan inked a person and glued it onto the picture. We also drew a house on the computer in revalation art. We printed in and glued that onto our picture. Here is what they look like.

Carlton Schools New Hard Working Caretaker

At Carlton School we have a new caretaker. His name is Mr McPhun. Our old caretaker was Mr King. Mr McPhun is a very kind a caring caretaker. He always smiles when you say hello. Mr McPhun is a very hard working man. Mr McPhun is very interested in sport and is going to be taking Rippa Rugby. We can't wait!

Shoes

Room 14 observationaly drew our shoes. First we did a rubbing of the soles of our shoes using crayon. We then dyed our pieces of paper. Next we did a pencil rubbing of our shoes on a smaller piece of paper. Then we did a draft copy of our shoes in our art draft book. Once we were happy, we observationally drew our shoe on the paper with the pencil rubbings. When then glued that sheet onto our crayoned sheet. Check out our shoes.

Wordle Art

Look at this exciting programme Mrs Robertson showed me. All you do is enter the words you want to include, click go and it creates this awesome piece of art. Check it out I created one using all the names of people in our class. I bet we could use it for lots of things. Go to the site and have a play.

Posting a Great Comment

We are getting really clever at adding posts onto our blog and a lot of classes at school have created their own blog. So it would be nice if we could have time to check out all the class blogs and even post comments on them. So to help everyone out I have found a poster which shows us how to post great comments. In Room 14 everyone is going to have an opportunity to post comments on blogs we follow.
