Virginia Lake Trip

Finally, our trip to Virginia Lake was on!  We had to postpone it due to weather a few weeks a go. There was lots of chatting and singing on the bus with our buddy class Room 5 as we traveled to the lake.  With our buddy class we split into groups and walked around the lake doing a tally chart of the birds we could find, a scavenger hunt and also feeding the ducks.  They loved eating the bread and so did the other bird life.  After morning tea we separated into our classes and did our own activities. Our class did observational bird drawings with Miss Hulme in the bird aviary.  Next to the lake we were with Mrs Palmer writing a poem including all our senses.  At the winter gardens we completed a quiz where we had to find the answers hidden in the gardens with Mrs McGinniss.  Lunchtime was fun sitting with our buddies and we got to play on the playground, the stage and grass area.  For our last activities of the day we were back with our buddies.  We did bark rubbings, played duck, duck, goose and wondered around the bird aviary.  We had an amazing time doing all our usual school work but outside at the lake with our buddies.

River and Waimarie Museum Visit

On Monday we walked down to the river.  We had our lunch sitting under the trees with a great view of the river.  Our challenge after lunch, in pairs was to take a landscape photo using an iPad.  Lots of us took photos of the Durie Hill Tower, Waimarie and the river.  We wondered who the winner would be?  Our visit to the Waimarie Museum was amazing.  The information and knowledge we learnt from the wonderful people at the museum was helpful to our inquiry we are doing back at school.

Learning to Persist

Mrs Steedman gave us the challenge to work in groups of three to make a tall tower out of playing cards.  Often our towers collapsed so we had to persist to try to build another one.  When we were working together, encouraging of each other and used a rough surface this made making the tower easier.

Camp at Green Pastures

We stayed at Green Pastures for an overnight camp.  First we arrived at Bason Reserve for a scavenger hunt where we had to find out information and do different tasks.  We tried lots of different outdoor activities at Green Pastures such as: archery, kayaking, horizontal bungie and air rifle.  One of our favourites was completing the mud run.  We enjoyed looking like mud monsters!

Mr Palmer visits

Today Mr Palmer visited us.  He is an arborist.  He talked to us about what at arborist does and all the safety equipment needed to cut down a tree.  He removed a dead tree from near our front playground. We watched him do this and some of us took the branches away so we can use them in our tree huts.
