Room 12 and 15's Trip Around Wanganui

On Tuesday morning Room 15 was so existed to go on the big trip around Wanganui. The first thing we did was go to Room 12 to get our Buddy's to go to the bus. Our first stop was the lake. When we got to the lake we had a tour around the lake. We saw a lot of ducks and Geese and some pukeko's.

Our next stop was Kowhai Park. When we were a Kowhai Park we had morning tea and we played everywhere.

After that we went to the the Water Tower. When we got there we all tried to draw the tower.

While we were at the water tower Mrs Larsen said that we were going to Queens Park next. At Queens Park we read a story Charlotte and the lion. The setting was based on Queens Park. After the story we had some lunch and played. We just loved rolling down the big hill.

The next interesting thing was Moutoa Gardens. While we were there we saw the Carlton School flowers that we sent for Anzac day.

When we had finished at the Garden we went across the road and we went into the riverboat place. Isaiah wrote in the visitors book for us. We all had fun pretending to be Captains on the boat inside.

After that we went to the Tram Shed. We met the people working on restoring the trams. They told us that they are hoping to put the Trams back onto our streets. When we were there we made a video of everyone having a lot around the Tram.

After that we walked across the town bridge and down the long tunnel to the elevator underground. It was really bumpy in the elevator and it was cool seeing how close we were through the little window. When we got up the top we climbed the steps all the way to the top of the Durie Hill Tower. So of us climbed onto the top ans could see all of Wanganui through the cage. Willaim tried to drop a 10c coin onto the ground but it flew away because the wind was so strong.

On the way to the beach William and Nikora fell to asleep. It must of been a long day, but it wasn't over. When we arrived at the Mole we talked about how the big ships used to come in and drop off supplies. After checking that out we had heaps of fun playing. People made sandcastles, wrote in the sand, built huts and we had lots and lots of driftwood guns.

It was such an awesome day out. We loved spending time with our buddies and had lot of fun.

Mystery Envelope - What will it be?

Today we started something new, the Mystery Envelope. Every week Mrs Larsen is going to put something in the envelope she feels needs doing around the classroom. It could be making sure the books are in nice piles, cleaning the clock bay or checking the back door is locked. The boys have 1 week to try and do whats in the mystery envelope. On Friday we open the envelope, see what it was and see if anyone actually did it. The person who does the thing inside the mystery envelope could win a prize. Each week will be different. I wonder who will be first

Kapa Haka Show

Today we went to WHS to watch a Kapa Haka and Pasifica performance. Matua Ashley thought it would be a good idea. It might help us when we do things like the Haka Powhiri. We all thought it was great and were amazed at how powerful they sound. We were also surprised to see the effort the boys put in. Can you believe it their chests and legs were red because they were slapping them so hard. Now that's commitment.

Presents from Barb

Today we were really spoilt. Barb, Mrs Larsen's mum, brought everyone a present from Australia. She has been there on holiday for the past week. We were all lucky enough to be given a pencil and boomerang. Mrs Larsen gave us lots of times to play with our boomerangs. It was so much fun. No one was able to make it come back though.

Where in the world do we want to visit?

Today I gave the boys a challenge. They had to choose a country they really want to visit and not tell anybody, Once they had decided they needed to find 5 interesting facts about that country. They turned the facts into clues. Tomorrow they are going to create a voki 'Where is the world do I want to go?'

Some boys took the challenge very seriously and would not let on to anyone where they want to go. Check out William and David working hard on the computer under their sheet!

Learning how to Email

Last week when the Year 4's and 5's went to swim safe the Year 6's got taught how to email each other. When we were waiting we had to pick someone to get ther email address. When we had their email address we had to type their email adress into a bsr up the top, we then wrote something to them and they are going to write back.

Ukulele's

In the last couple of weeks we have been working on a new art project. We have been observationally drawing ukulele's so we can colour them in. It is hard work but I think we can create master pieces. He is one Mrs Larsen made using our drawings.

Visitors

Today in the morning Mr Peterson came in and introduced us to a teacher aide which was our visitor. Then after morning tea another teacher aide came in and her name was Mrs Cain. They are going to have a lot of fun with us.

Wall of fame

I have chosen to extra people for the Wall of Fame this week. When working on our successful person, both Josh and Dean were able to demonstrate this terms habit, applying past Knowledge. They were able to use something I shared with them last year to help them with their activity. Good thinking you two!

Striving for Accuarcy and Precision

Well done Kayne. He worked extremely hard on his project and it shows. He is hands down on the Wall of Fame this week.

Duffy Book Winner

Congratulations Dean. He is our duffy book winner this week. He always tries hard so I though he deserved a new book.

Postcard Project!

We have joined the postcard project and we love it! Thanks Mrs Robertson for sharing the great idea. A clever teacher in New Zealand came up with the idea. Mrs Larsen has lots of addresses to other classes all over the world. We write postcards to them and they write to us. We have written to Canada, USA, Australia, Scotland, Russia and many more. Its so exciting, we have received 3 postcards so far. 2 from USA and 1 from Australia.

Everyday we cant wait for the mail. I wonder when we will get our next one and where it will be from.

We hope we can stay in contact with our new friends so if they have a blog we have put a link to them. Go check them out. We love seeing what other schools in different countries are getting up to.

Our New Friends

Last Monday the class were given a challenge, to keep an egg safe for one whole week. Some lasted only 20 minutes, poor eggs! Some rolled off tables, some fell out of their safe houses and some were smashed on the concrete. We now have 5 splattered egg marks on the classroom carpet. Out of 24 only 5 were able to survive. Well done! I know it was hard.

Broken Arm!

Can you believe it? Mr Petersen has a broken wrist. He was trying to put his hand through a plank of wood (not in an elephants trunk). Mrs Roberston managed to. Mrs Priest did too. So did Mrs Bennett. But Mr Petersen... Whoops!

Striving for Accuracy and Precision

Check out what William has been up to during maths time. He was able to stay focused during the whole black and completed the activity to a high standard. He produced some great graphs and statements to go with it. Way to go William. Keep up the hard work.

Wall of Fame: Applying Past Knowledge

Congratluations David! He's made it on the Wall of Fame again!. This week he was able to demonstrate our habit for this term, Applying past knowledge. When reading our story in the newspaper, Trail of a Kiwi Killer, David made a connection to when we had the Green Rig at our school last year. He was able to use the information he learnt from the Green Rig to understand the story better and help his classmates out.

Maths

Over the past week for maths we have been learning the skills needed to answer one of our maths questions.

In N.Z more than 1/2 our cars are white, less than 1/4 are blue there are more red than yellow and the least popular is green. Do the cars passing our front gate in 10 minutes match this statement? Display your findings. Make statements about your discoveries.

Today the boys started to answer the maths question. The boys went outside and started to collect the data needed. I wonder what they found out? Watch this space to see their results.

Over the week we have been putting the finishing touches on the collage pictures and wow stories we created about our holidays. Here are a few below

“Jump in the car Nathanael, let’s go to Briscoes to get my oven” said dad. Dad had a special paper to help find the right oven. “Yippee” I yelled “Now we can cook yummy pizza”.

I bobbed up and down in the lazy river. The water pulled me round. It was warm like the sun.

We are so lucky. Today Mrs Larsen was given a huge container of games and toys for our class. There were things like a lego city mat with cars, worker trucks and planes. There were farm animals and dinsaurs, and lot of constructing materils. The boys had fun playing with them during fun time.

Visiting Artist

Last Thursday we had Graeme Braddock an artist visit our school. He taught the whole school how to draw really well.

Our 1st Keeping Ourselves Safe Session

On Wednsday Constable Tanya came to Room 15 to talk about Keeping Ourselves Safe. First she said that one boy in Room 2 had a code so if someone was to come and pick him they must know the code. Then we had write what we did yesterday from when we get up and when we go to sleep. Then we had to number them to see if they are dangerous. 5 was the most dangerous number.

Coming back to school

On Monday we Came back to school and I enjoyed it. In room 15 Ms Oconnor came to our class to teach us. Ms Oconnor gave us a challenge and we did the Whale and soccer topics
On Thursday room 15 did Kapa haka with room 6.

Coming Back to School

Last week Mrs Larsen was away so we had Ms O'Conner. We did some newspaper work. We had to change the head line of the washed up whale. We had Buddy's through all the activities like searching for things like jobs and birth and marriages. Now Mrs Larsen is back and Ms O'Connor is going to get the prizes for the competition.

Last week we...

Last week Room 15 did newspaper work and it was really hard to do. We had to buddy up and my buddy was Dean. We had to do a whole lot of stuff for it. We even filled an A3 page up. It was very fun but still really hard.

The Competition

Last week we had Ms O'connor. We had a competition. We had partners. For the competition we used newspapers. We had to cut out bits about deaths, wanted jobs, news etc. We had to make a graph on how many vowels, conjunctions, consonnants, blends, prefixes and suffixes. It was hard. Some people had 530 vowels.

Coming back to school

On Monday morning we came back to school. We all went back in class. We found out that Mrs Larsen was not here. So Ms o Conner split us around the school with work sheets.
