Soccer Experts

We have been learning all about the FIFA World Cup. Today we found out Room 15 are really keen to learn more so we went to visit them and answer some questions they had. We then took a buddy outside and taught them how to kick a soccer ball correctly. All of the Room 14 boys did a great job, Room 15 are now experts at kicking soccer balls. Tomorrow we are going to play a game. I wonder how that will go.

Two Days To Go!

Only 2 days to go till the FIFA World Cup starts. Here's a video to get you excited.

New FIFA World Cup Challenge

Who will be the first to give me the right answer?

World Cup Challenge Answer

Well done Jonathan. The first ever world cup was held in Uruguay in 1930. It went from the 13th of July to the 30th of July. Here is the FIFA World Cup logo from 1930.

Oceans Alive

Today we saw a show called Oceans Alive. We learnt heaps of interesting things. Did you know people have explored the moon more often than the bottom of the ocean.

Look at how many people can fit on a blue whales tail!

Lets Celebrate

Today we celebrated having 1000 blog hits. Mrs Larsen made us a really yummy chocolate cake. Lucky us.

Challenge Two

Congratulations Dakota for correctly answering our first question. The Fifa president is Joseph S. Blatter.
Who can answer the next one first?

Special Visitor

Today we were very lucky to have Ms O'Connor’s brother come and talk to us. He used to be in the army and now he is a body guard in Iraq. First he talked to us and shared stories from his exciting life so far. After that we all went outside and we had a go at some of the training activities he does over in Iraq. I think all the boys would make excellent soldiers. Lastly we went back into class and looked at some photos and video footage. To top things off Mr O'Connor took out his fake eye and passed it around the boys to have a look and feel. Yuck! What a fantastic way to end the day.

Boys and Girl Gym Club

Today we went to the Gym Club for the second time. Mrs Larsen remembered to bring the Camera this time. We practiced forward rolls then went out onto the equipment. Have a look at what we got up to.

Rippa Rugby

Yesterday the Senior Rippa Rugby team went to Westmere School to play their team. We found the game very challenging. It was a lot rougher than expected, but we still had lots of fun. Congratulations Carlton for playing hard and fair.

Rutherford Visit

Last Week the Rutherford Boys class came to our school to visit. First we had a game of soccer Yr 7's and our class versus the Yr 8's. We won! Next we went to the hall to have a BP Technology Challenge. The challenge was, only using 10 newspapers and a roll of sellotape, create the tallest tower. We all started off really well. But as time went on and our towers started to get taller they started to break and lots of people gave up. We still all had fun though. Congratulations to the Carlton Boys for not giving up.

FIFA world cup - What's the big deal?

Today we started our new inquiry. Our fist task was to find out what FIFA stands for. Did you know it stands for Federation Iternational Football Association. We then went over which country is hosting the World Cup. We already knew it was South Africa beacuse of our Greatest Feat challenge. Lastly we had to find the World Cup logo. Mrs Larsen then gave each pair a year and we have to find the logo for that year. We have added lots of wonderings to our wonderings wall. Mrs Larsen is going to give us lots of activities to find out the answers to our wonderings. Hopefully after our inquiry we will know, what's the big deal.
