Camp - Friday
Written by Keylen
When I woke from my deep sleep I got up, got my gear ready and pack it into the bus. We were off again. Today was our last day on camp. As I was getting onto the bus I thought to myself "Mmmmmmm! Today at the prawn farm I'm hopefully going to catch a prawn at the prawn fishing area."
When we arrived at the prawn farm a tour guy showed us around. He showed us where they put the different prawn pools. Some of the prawns were 3 quarters the size of my arm. Next prawn fishing. Yay! I said to myself as we were going to get our gear for prawn fishing. I caught quite a lot of prawn at the prawn farm a few years ago, I was hoping to do the same again this year. We had to use a bamboo stick, good tight string and a hook. We also got a cup of prawn food. We were starting to throw our hooks out I looked over and saw Cole had already put his in and Bam, he had caught a prawn that was about half of the size my arm. About two minutes later I got a bite and Ka Pow! I pulled and pulled but rod but it flung out of the water. The prawn took my food and got away, I was so disappointed. After about 25 minutes of fishing it was time to put our gear away and head to Turangi.
At Turangi we went to the Trout Centre. The trout centre had thousands of trout in their pools and ponds. There was a guy that told us how different breeds of trout, what they eat, and how many they breed. It was amazing how many trout they have. We got to feed the trout and where ever you put the food they all come rushing to you.
After that we started to head back to Wanganui. On the way we stopped off at Raukawa Falls to have lunch. Raukawa Falls was way different to Huka Falls because Huka falls is much bigger.
We started to head home after that. The ride back was so fun because me and Cole were just talking and making up jokes.
What a great camp!
Camp - Thursday

Woohoo! Today was the most exciting day of all, we
were going to the new camp in Taupo but first came all of the most
painstakingly boring cleaning jobs ever. After a long and painful experience,
it was time to pack up and leave.
First up on the list was Redwood Forest. Once we
arrived we were blown away by how ginormous the trees were. It took 10 people
to wrap right around the whole trunk of the tree. Afterwards we went on a
scavenger hunt and had an explore around.
Next on the list was the Lava Glass Studio. The
vases were amazing. We even got to go in and watch the artist make the
ornaments and glasses. The artist was awesome at making vases especially when
it comes to adding details. He was making them in less than ten minutes!
Finally it was lunch time so we stopped off at Huka
Falls. The first thing I did was shove the delicious bread roll into my mouth. It
was so juicy and delicious. Afterwards we had a quick look at the falls and hit
the road again.
Next was the Honey Hive. We arrived and had quick
lesson about bees and how they work. Then we headed off to explore the place.
The first thing that came to my eyes was the film that was playing. So I sat
down and watched it.
Oh yeah next
on the list was the Volcanic Activity Centre. This was the most interesting
place because we were watching a screen which showed where earthquakes were
happening and it showed the scale of them too. After that I headed to the
earthquake simulator. It shook us so badly that I fell of my seat. Finally it
was film time so we went into another room and watched a film about the
earthquake in Christchurch and the Mt Ruapehu blowing its top.
Last but not least we went to our new camp. It turned
out to be quite a cool camp. By then it was dinner time so we headed and had a
beautiful BBQ for dinner. But desert topped everything we had a giant ball
of candy floss bigger than our heads! Afterwards we played board games
then went to bed.
Camp - Wednesday

Yawn! At 7am in the morning we all
climbed out of bed and slowly dressed and packed our day packs and headed off
to breakfast. For breakfast we had a choice of crunchy toast, cornflakes,
flaky Weet-bix and Rices with a milo. My group had to do our duty. It was
mopping and sweeping up the floors after breakfast. Once we finally
finished our duty we made lunch for the day it looked yum.
When we were all ready we hopped
on the bus and left to go to smelly Kuirau Geothermal Park. Kuirau Park had a
lot of mud pools and boiling hot water, it was smelly. After we looked at the
mud pools and boiling water we went over a bridge, it took us across very hot
steaming water. It was awesome.
Everyone was really excited
because when we left Kuirau Park we arrived at the gondola/luge. I think it was
the highlight of my camp. First we went up the gondola and had morning tea. What
a sight it was looking over Rotorua. After morning tea we all got our helmets
and headed to the luge. First we all did the really slow beginners track. Nick
my group leader and I were the first to cross the line. After the beginners
track I went on the advanced track, it was so fast. I felt like a Cheetah.
There was one part where I crashed, it was on a sand barrier because
I did a jump and forgot I had to slow down.
After the Luge the class went back
down the gondola and left for Paradise Valley Springs Lion Park. When we
arrived at the Lion park we had lunch and went in and had a look in the shop. As
soon as we walked in we saw a fluffy soft giant stuffed Kiwi. The first thing
my group did was look at the young lion cubs. We even got to pat the lion cubs,
it was awesome as. After the cubs we went and met the donkey, we named it John
key the donkey. We carried on walking until we came to the trout feeding area
and fed the trout. After that we looked at all the other animals. After that we
all had an ice block each. Finally
it was time to see the lion feeding, there was a really greedy lion king
called Max. He kept on eating all the other lion’s meat. It was funny.
YAY! It was time to have a swim we
all got out of the bus and rushed to the changing rooms. When we got changed we
all ran to the pool and dived in. It was funny because Wiremu did a funky bomb
into the pool and we all laughed.
After the swim we all got dressed
and jumped back in the bus and left to the camp grounds. When we all arrived at
the camp grounds we had a fun as game of tackle bullrush. It was funny because
the smallest person in our class, Kahu played it. Kahu got passed
around 10 people and we all cheered for him, it was amazing. After bullrush we
had dinner watched another movie, the Muppets then went to bed. My cabin didn't
go to sleep straight away because we kept on talking, it was funny. What a
great day!
Camp - Tuesday

My eyes burst open on Tuesday, I leapt out of bed
and splashed sub-zero cold water onto my face and packed all of my stuff,
double checking that I had everything and I went straight to school. I packed
my stuff into the bus and we left for camp.
The bus trip seemed never-ending until finally we
arrived in Raetihi for morning tea. We had a play on the playground and then left
for Taupo. When we got there we had lunch at a playground. After a good stretch
and run-around we headed on another long trip to Rotorua.
In Rotorua the first thing we did was the duck
tour. That took us around Rotorua, it was REALLY smelly. We went into Blue
Lake, it was also called lake Tiki Tapu because a maori woman lost a sacred
tribal necklace in it. The driver told us about each place we saw.
After the duck tour we headed for Keswick Camp.
When we arrived we unpacked the bus and set up our gear. Once we set up we
could go and play. After we had a play we went into the dining hall for dinner.
After a delicious dinner of roast beef and veges we brushed our teeth, got into
our pyjamas and headed over to a room with our sleeping bags and watched a
movie, School of Rock. It was LOL funny. After the movie we all went to bed and
got a good night’s sleep.
