Striving for Accuracy

This week Tarron has been striving for accuracy. He tried extra hard with his reading activity and decided to go one step further and make a powerpoint to show his learning intention.

King of the Den

Well I only had one option this week. This person completed their work, had fantastic manners and really showed the class what it takes to be a King in Room 15.

Isaiah's Day Out

This week I went to a Genesis Energy science course. When we went there the first thing we did was go into the hall and watch a video about this street in Auckland where all of there power comes from solar panels it was fascinating. After that we did some courses the first one that I did was investigating what angle would be the best for a solar panel and which angle would catch the most sunlight. we found out it was a 60 degree angle. After that course we went to a course where you build stuff that runs of solar energy we made a fan, a radio, and a light bulb it was interesting and I also found out that you can use the solar panels for anything electronic. Then we went to a course where you learn about inferred light and ultra violet. At that course we also put on these special glasses where you can look at the sun and it would be a little orange ball.  Then we had another video about sustainable resources and what using coal for power does to the Earth. What a great day!

Our New Habit

Today we started focusing on our new habit Striving for Accuracy. We made a brainstorm to show what we think Striving for Accuracy means. What are your ideas? Do you have some that we haven't thought of?

Assembly Winner

Way to go Isaiah! He got his Hi5 card pulled out in assembly and won a prize. Doesn't he look great in his new hat.

Striving for Accuracy

Well two people have been chosen this week for Striving for Accuracy. Both Harry and Isaiah did a brilliant job with their homework. I was very impressed.

Another Discovery

I was downloading videos of children cup stacking at lunch time today and look what I found. What do you think the American Idol judges would say?

What Teachers Really Get Up To After School

I walked into the staffroom after school today and this is what I saw.

Frank Bunce

We are so lucky, today we had Frank Bunce come to our school and talk to us about the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Trust. We learnt about how they rescue people, the equipment they use and where they can rescue people from. The seniors did the Haka Powhiri to Welcome Frank. After talking to the school the Rippa Team was really lucky. They got a chance to pass a rugby ball around with him. We were really lucky in Room 15 too. We got to have a class photo with him and get him to sign something just for our class. We also took a photo of him with Ming the Minibus so we can write about him as one of our interesting New Zealanders. Here are a few photos from today. Watch this space for more photos and videos of our visit from frank today.

Can you believe it!

What should we do to celebrate?

Our Tree!

Wow! We arrived at school and what did we find but a giant tree in the corner of the class. Mrs Larsen made the tree that we wanted. We now have our very own tree hut in the class. How cool is that!

Quad Bloggers, we have some questions for you...

Wow, we were so overwhelmed with the amount of comments left. Thanks so much.

A few people asked some questions so here goes.
We are Yr 5/6 (age 9/10) and all boys! Which is rare. We are one of only a few all boys class in a primary school in all of New Zealand.
The bugs in the photo are our 2D bugs we are still working on our 3D, they will be finished very soon. We are adding eyes and legs now. We will put a photo up of them shortly.
For P.E at the moment we are learning ball skills. We are learning to catch, pass, throw, and hit a ball correctly in lots of different situations. We are lucky to have the Intermediate school teach us some of these skills.
The supervised game we were playing is T.Ball its just like softball but instead of someone throwing the ball it sits on the tee. Do you have T.Ball at your school?
