We have been working hard for the past two weeks practising our assembly item. We are doing a play. Here is a sneak peak at a couple of our characters. Watch this space for a video of our item.
Congratulations Joshua for getting the World Cup challenge right again. The All Whites were last part of the World Cup in 1982. Here is the next challenge.
Today Carlton Rippa team went to Springvale Stadium to have a Rippa Rugby tournament. We had four games, we won two and lost two. It was very fun playing. The ground were very wet and very muddy. So after we finished we were all very dirty. We ended up coming 2nd in our group. Congratulations team!
Today we played our last game of Rippa against Tawhero. We found the game to be challenging because the field was really slippery and muddy. Kerwyn fell right into a mud puddle and got covered. The score was 10-5 to them. Well done team you all played really well.
On Friday we played our second Rippa games against St Annes. All of the children really enjoyed the game. the score was 15-13 to them. It was a close game.
Today Rm 14 and Rm 6 Yr 5's did a bp technolgy challenge. We had to make a marble track using only newspaper, wire, 3 straws and 6 ice-block sticks. Everyone foud the challenge very hard and unfortunately lots of people gave up. Only 3 teams were able to produce a track and only 1 teams track actually worked all the way to the end. Congratulations to the girls who produced the best track.
This afternoon we had Roger Sanders come and tell the whole School some stories. He used his drums for sound effects and spoke with lots of expression. The boys thought he was great. He showed them how to tell stories really well so hopefully they can remember what to do when its our assembly item next week.
Today the Rutherford boys class came to visit. We decided because it was finally fine weather to build huts, climb trees and have Go Kart races. It was a morning of fun, laughter and risk taking. It was great to see everyone getting on so well and the huts were fantastic. We even had a hammock in one!
As well as learning more about the countries involved in the World Cup, we decided we needed to find them on the world map. We used drawing pins, wool and the countries flags to identify them.
This morning we saw the Kaharangi Dance Theatre Group from Hastings. We all really enjoyed it. They told us all about Pacific island cultures, the instruments they played and the dances they performed. They also taught us a greeting from each island. It was a great show!

Last week we all drew a name of a country involved in the World Cup out of a hat. Since then we have been working hard to find interesting facts about our countries. Have a look at some of the finished pieces of work.
This morning the Year 5's went to Room 5 to do science. It was so fun. One of my favourite things was making bombs using plastic bags, vinegar, baking soda and paper towels. You had to shake it up, then put it on the ground and it should explode. Mine exploded in my hand. It was great! By Jahzia
Today the Year 6's went to WIS to do some activities like woodwork, cooking, robotics and art. It was very exiting because in woodwork, we are making spinning tops, next week they will be finished and we get to take them home.
Today we had our last gym session. All the boys had a great time! They even ganged up on Mrs Larsen and tackled her into the pit. It was fun though. Watch out next year boys!
Go the All Whites! They drew 1-1 with Slovakia in their first World Cup 2010 match. They now have 1 point. The first ever point New Zealand has scored in the World Cup. Heres a clip of the drawing goal.
Today when the Yr 6's went to WIS, Mrs Larsen gave the Yr 5's a challenge. To build a stretcher to carry an injured person out of the forrest. Each group was given 8 newspapers, sellotape and string. The stretcher had to hold 2 of our big cushions. Each team then had to complete an obstacle course. Some stretchers broke, but lots survived. Congratulations to the winners!
We have been looking closely at the different mascots the World Cup has had over the years. We decided to make one of our own. Here is what we came up with.
